We are grateful to Dwight Weidman, K3WVU, for writing a wonderful article about our club. It is now live on the Franklin County Free Press News page under the title “The Cumberland Valley Amateur Radio Club’s Annual Field Day Gives Aspiring Radio Operators a Chance to Get on the Air.”
The article gives a great overview of Field Day, amateur radio’s largest on-air event and the hobby’s premier emergency preparedness exercise. Every June, radio clubs across the country set up temporary stations powered entirely by generators and batteries, and operate for 24 hours straight to demonstrate that we can communicate when the regular infrastructure is down. It is equal parts friendly competition, public outreach, and hands-on training for real emergencies.
This is happening this weekend, June 27 & 28, at the Cumberland Valley Antique Engine & Machinery Association’s Steam Show Grounds in Chambersburg, PA.
Everyone is welcome, no license required. Stop by anytime during the weekend to tour the stations, watch our operators make contacts around the world and across the states, joining more than 32,000 other hams participating nationwide, ask questions, and even sit in and try it yourself. Visit our Field Day 2026 page for the schedule, directions, and more details.
We hope to see you all out there — and even more, we hope you have fun!
